2013 Tip Number 23 Wireless Alerts

Recent severe weather and the start of the Atlantic hurricane season reinforce the need for Americans to familiarize themselves with the look, sound and authenticity of real-time Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs).

To encourage, educate and empower Americans to identify WEAs and prepare for emergencies, both natural and man-made, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Ad Council are unveiling new public service advertisements (PSAs). Click here to watch.

REMINDER: You do not need to register to receive WEA notifications. You will automatically receive alerts if you have a WEA-capable phone and your wireless carrier participates in the program.

To help us build a weather-ready nation, click here to share this information with your employees, co-workers, friends and family. Together we can save lives and transform the way the United States responds to emergency situations.

Tip Number 9 Stay Afloat

The Midwest was hammered with yet another snow storm this week. And with winter weather on everyone’s mind, it’s hard to believe the first day of spring is less than a month away.

As the snow melts and temperatures rise, flooding becomes a major issue in many parts of the country. According to FEMA, floods are one of the most common and expensive natural disasters. All it takes is a few inches of water to cause thousands of dollars of damage.

So what can you do to protect yourself, your family and your business? Join Agility on March 13th for a free webinar on preparing your business for spring weather.

2013 Tip Number 1 Happy New Year

The New Year always seems to bring a flutter of change and high hopes for the year ahead. However, New Year’s resolutions aside, most of us will continue about our normal lives. We’ll get up, go to work, respond to emails, sit in on meetings, go home, eat dinner, go to bed and hit repeat. The day before a disaster is just a normal day.

Created by FEMA, “The Day Before” campaign reminds us of the importance of preparing for the unknown. Click to watch.

In addition to the Ad Council PSA, ready.gov developed an interactive map that takes a look back at some of our nation’s most unexpected disasters. What happen the day before those life changing moments? Click here to find out.

If today were the day before, would you be ready?

2012 tip number 29 Picking up the Pieces

Imagine this: You have survived the worst; a storm beyond comprehension. Thankfully, your family, friends and employees are safe. Now it’s time to survey the damage. You go to your office to find a destroyed roof, damaged computer equipment and a foot of standing water. What now? How will you ever be able to afford all the repairs?

At time of disaster, even the most prepared businesses can be adversely impacted. Knowing what resources are available to you following a disaster can help ease the pain and cost of rebuilding your personal and professional life.

Various organizations have developed disaster assistance programs to financially aid individuals, families and businesses struggling to recover. Click on the links below to learn more about what each program has to offer.

2012 tip number 17 Force of Nature

As we mark the first anniversary of one of the largest tornado outbreaks in U.S. history, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are teaming up this week to save lives from severe weather by encouraging the public to take proactive preparedness measures and inspire others to do the same.

As part of the first ever National Severe Weather Preparedness Week, citizens and municipal officials alike are encouraged to be a "force of nature" through a number of proactive steps:

  • Know Your Risk: Be aware of the severe weather risks in your area. It is also important to understand how these potential threats could impact you and your family.
  • Take Action: Develop a plan. Put together an emergency kit and practice where and how to take shelter should severe weather strike.
  • Be an Example: Actively promote what you're doing when severe weather is headed your way. Create a YouTube video, post your story on Facebook, comment on our LinkedIn page or send a tweet to let people know you are taking shelter as it may encourage others to follow suit.

Disaster Recovery Tip #45 It's Just a Test.

As you have probably already heard, the nation-wide Emergency Alert System test is scheduled to take place today, November 9th, at 2:00 p.m. est.

The test will interrupt regularly scheduled television, radio, cable, and satellite shows for approximately 30 seconds with a series of beeps and a message stating, "This is a test". Watch the below video for more information from FEMA's Administrator, Craig Fugate.

As your partner in preparedness, we encouraged you to share this information with your colleagues, family, friends and neighbors.

If you have additional questions or would like to talk with a recovery professional about your business continuity needs visit www.agilityrecovery.com or call 866-364-9696.

Nationwide Test of the Emergency Alert System

Nationwide Test of the Emergency Alert System

In an effort to strengthen our nation's preparedness and resiliency, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct the first nation-wide test of the Emergency Alert System on November 9th, at 2 p.m. eastern standard time.

Watch the below video as Administrator Fugate and FEMA’s Neil McDevitt explain what to expect during the nations first test of the Emergency Alert System.

As the federal, state and local governments prepare for and test their capabilities, we are reminded of the benefits of testing and the need to continually refine your business continuity plan.
