Irene Threatens the Eastern Seaboard
Hurricane Irene's fury is growing and the National Hurricane Center warned today that the storm could be upgraded from its current level of Category 3 to a more ominous Category 4 by Thursday. It's been six years since the lower East Coast was last struck by a hurricane and much longer than that since a major storm hit New England. The first hurricane watches have been issued for the United States and emergency response officials are urging residents to take the necessary steps to prepare for Irene's impact.
